I agree they are no replacement for dry wood. I find though, a 1/3 of a sawdust log will keep a fire of semi-wet wood going for several hours. I like to have about 10 sawdust logs around for an emergency.

Our hens definitely wanted to avoid the snow if possible and stayed in the covered yard area during the worst of the storms. They were happy to come back out after the melt started but still only traversed where there is bare ground if at all possible. Apparently my girls have cold feet (but warm hearts!).

Awesome! That is a nice bunch of plants growing in there. I have the mid winter starts growing under the grow tunnel and in the unheated greenhouse and am about to start round two of the early spring items to go in behind and with them for succession purposes. Planting quite a few flats of early greens this weekend for the local Giving Garden as well. They opened up a big area under the grow tunnels by harvesting the last of the carrots and need some replacement crops ASAP.

Glad you are back to posting! I was wondering what you were up to lately. Love the latest project. I have several of those large water storage barrels as well (in my shop) and a good siphon. We change out the water every year and use a little bleach to purify it. Good idea to use them for a heat sink though in your sun garden area.

We have always done "buy nothing" days on the day after Thanksgiving. This year is no different. In fact, i will be puttering around in my garden doing a little final clean up of dead pole bean vines, probably start a flat of lettuces under our indoor lights, and then do some decorating of the house for the holidays using all of our old but treasured decorations. Lovely day without the consumer push of "buy buy buy".

We are "opting out" in stages: This year, we are making our gifts. (Although, the textiles were purchased from a chain.) Next year, I may even be able to spin and dye my own wool for the gifts I knit. That's the goal. Thanks for the encouragement.
